Welcome, Eleonor!

We rang in the new year by welcoming our new family member, Eleonor. After some trying deliberations, Eleonor decided to leave her family, friends and home in Malmo, Sweden to spend a year making new families and friends in Bend, Oregon. We are thrilled that she made the decision to come!

She spent her fall term with another host family here in Bend, and immediately became a star Lava Bear at Bend High. She played on the varsity girl’s soccer team as they took state and joined the leadership group. Between school work, she is busy racing with the ski team, attending Rotary club meetings, and hanging out with friends. Fortunately, she has a little free time with us, too. We enjoyed going up to the mountain with her last weekend and she’s shared  a few Swedish lessons over dinner. (I think our Swedish vocabulary is up to about 8 words now! She has some slow learners in the group.) And  Chiara loves her new big sister. She squeals and laughs when Eleonor is around.

We are looking forward to the next few months of her company. We plan to show her Portland at least once while she is here, so hopefully many of you will be able to meet her, too. I’m sure you’ll enjoy her company just as we enjoy having her as part of our family.
