One of the perks of hosting Eleonor is that we have an excuse to go places. We took advantage of the long weekend to visit the Oregon Coast. We couldn’t have asked for a better weekend!

The results are in… and all three colleges to which Becca applied have offered her admission. Willamette University. University of Portland. And Southern Oregon University. All three additionally offered generous scholoraships–a compliment to Becca’s high school achievements. Becca is now deep in deliberation evaluating and assessing her options. University of Portland has an early lead, but we’re scheduled to visit Southern Oregon University in early March. More details to follow…

Looking for sun

Chiara is ready for summer! We’re hoping it’s right around the corner…

Happy, happy, Grandma!

Monday, February 8th, 2010

It was a weekend of celebration in Bend.

Uncle Al came over to play with his band, the Concrete Cowboys, in Redmond. We were lucky enough to get to visit with him and then see the live show Saturday night. The band is always fun–lots of energy and talented musicians.

Grandma Carolyn and Grandpa George came to visit, too. Chiara was thrilled that we were able to celebrate Grandma’s “happy happy” with her in person (a few days late!). And although it was Grandma’s birthday, she was on the giving end of the gift-sharing. We were spoiled with treats, including an adorable apron and tea set for Chiara. Chiara wasted no time in throwing her first tea party…and then her second, and third, and fourth!

The best part, though, was enjoying the company of family. We are so fortunate to be able to celebrate the special occasions–and the random tea party–with family!

And don’t let the door hit you on your way out!

I knew that the time Chiara thought her mom was top-dog would be short-lived, but I never expected how short. Ever since Tom and Aunt Suzanne left for the airport on Sunday evening, Chiara has been trying to kick me out.

As we walked Dad and Aunt Suzanne to the door to say good bye, Chiara literally pushed me out the door, too. “Bye-bye, Mommy!” And then, when I didn’t step out, “Leave, Mommy!”

I thought perhaps it was a fluke, since the three of us went out to dinner the night before, leaving Chiara behind with Becca. Yet on Monday morning when Becca and Eleonor left for school, Chiara once again tried kicking me out of the house. And then again this morning, at music class, Chiara demanded, “Mommy leave,” as she ran back inside the house of the music instructor.

So it seems I have already lost my status as mommy dearest. Let’s hope that when we take off for spring break, she is still so anxious to see her mommy leave.

Glad to see Mom leaving Bye Mom!

Chiara elated to see her mommy leaving.
